Three Ways to Help
Our goal is to save canine lives by educating shelter workers, owners and dog lovers. We'd love for you to join us! There are three ways to help: Contribute pictures; Be a breed expert or Contribute monetarily.
Contribute pictures
Anyone who has a purebred dog or half purebred dog can contribute pictures! Since this site is about any purebred that might end up in a shelter, all dogs are welcome, from the scrawniest puppymill-bred dog to the Best of Breed winner at Westminster.
For each dog, we need a clear standing side view and a clear sitting or stand front view. This way, people can clearly see the important details, such as tail, body proportions, head, etc., of each dog to better recognize what that purebred dog looks like. Besides these two required pictures, other pictures are welcome and will be used as needed. Especially welcome are pictures that show the same dog looking different, such as a puppy and adult. Or a very matted, dirty dog, such as is often seen at shelters. Or a dog groomed for the show ring and the same dog in an "everyday coat." Or before and after shots of a stripped terrier. Basically, pictures that show dogs in all walks of life to allow people to recognize it no matter what its coat or life stage is.
We are also very interested in less commonly seen aspects of purebred dogs. For example, a field-bred dog looks vastly different than a bench-bred dog, but they're the same breed. Or some breeds bred in different countries look rather different. Especially welcome are dogs of less common colors, such as silver-and-black German Shepherds. Any color that a breed is seen in is welcome, even if it's a disqualifying color.
Because the purpose of this site is to help people identify purebred dogs, all purebred dogs pictured must be recognized and have a pedigree with AKC, UKC or, for certain breeds, a few other kennel clubs. If a rescued dog is clearly a purebred, we are willing to consider using its pictures, but they are subject to removal.
Pictures of mixed breeds are welcome, but only if one purebred parent is definitely known.
All dogs and contributors will be acknowledged on the Credits page. Contributors can choose to make certain information anonymous.

Be a breed expert
Breed experts are the life and blood of the site. Although many people can go to a dog show and point to any of the 200 plus dogs and name its breed, it takes a true expert to go to a shelter and look at a matted dirty dog and be able to look for the breed's defining features, such as the shape of the ear, the dewclaws or the headplanes.
Breed experts contribute primarily to the "Distinguishing Features" page of the breed pages. Although pictures are not required, breed experts are often an excellent source of pictures and contributing images is welcome.
Since their knowledge is so important to this site, breed experts are chosen with care and most show quantifiable experience to their breed to contribute their expertise. Both the type and the years of experience are taken into consideration.
All breed experts are acknowledged on the Credits page. They may choose to remain anonymous, however.
If you would like to share your expertise in your breed, please send the following information to contact@breedid.com:
